Teaching at UChicago since 1999

As the director of the University of Chicago Language Center and Senior Lecturer in Germanic Studies I support everyone on campus teaching and learning languages.  We teach over fifty languages here, every year! I work with colleagues on this campus through the Language Pedagogy Innovation Initiative, and with colleagues across the country through our Mellon Transforming Language Instruction project.  Both of these programs are designed around assessment-driven pedagogy, and that focus informs the pedagogy workshop I teach for graduate students every Winter quarter.  I received my Ph.D. in Second Languages and Cultures Education at the University of Minnesota, and specialized in reading comprehension and language testing.  I perform consulting for language programs in higher education on a variety of curricular and assessment-related issues.
