Ella Wilhelm joined the department in 2017, after graduating from the University of Toronto with an M.A. in Comparative Literature (2017) and an H.B.A. in Literature & Critical Theory (2016). Her dissertation analyzes the early German Romantic project of bringing the idea of a "religion of art" to life as a poetic and theoretical practice. Her broader interests include theories of secularization, the media theory of religion, narratology (especially formalism and structuralism), word and image studies, print culture, and dramaturgy.
